Forensics is available to students in 5th - 8th grade. Forensics is a curricular activity that enhances students’ communication skills through speaking and acting. Students choose from a variety of individual and group categories: prose, poetry, demonstration, group interpretation, and play-acting. They practice their oral presentation for about four weeks during their language arts class under the guidance of their coach. During March, students have the opportunity to participate in middle school competitions.
St. Mary students may participate in Safety Patrol upon entering 7th and 8th grade. These students arrive early before school begins each day to ensure fellow students are safely led from their cars to their perspective classrooms. They also stay after school to ensure safety for the younger students as they are placed in their cars to go home. Safety Patrols are a very committed group of boys and girls who not only provide safety upon arrival and departure times but also brave the rain, hot, and cold freezing weather. They also serve as positive role models for the other students.
St. Mary students are elected by the 5th through 7th grade student body for the positions of president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and coordinator in late spring for the following school year. These students serve the student body as representatives. They meet before school at least once a month as they plan fundraising and after school events. As student representatives, they lead the way in bringing ideas and changes within St. Mary School. They serve as positive role models for the other students.
